1.18 COMPACTION TESTING <br /> Not applicable. <br /> 1.19 STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION <br /> A. The contractor is advised that the City of Redwood City and all other municipal <br /> stormwater dischargers in San Mateo County are co-permittees under the National <br /> Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit Number CA S612008. This <br /> permit prohibits the discharge of illicit discharges (non rainwater) into the storm drain <br /> system, unless specifically exempt. As a condition of this permit the City of Redwood <br /> City and San Mateo County have implemented a local Storm Water Management Plan, <br /> adopted respective enabling ordinances prohibiting illicit discharges, and adopted "Best <br /> Management Practices"(BMPs) to assist contractors and citizens with alternatives. <br /> B. The central goal of the Storm Water Management Plan and BMPs is to reduce the <br /> amount of pollution in run-off and establish procedures to address and control storm <br /> water pollution resulting from both public and private sector construction activity within <br /> the City. <br /> C. All work performed under this contract and all contractors and their associates and/or <br /> employees, are required to comply with all applicable Storm Water regulations and to <br /> implement BMPs at all times. <br /> D. Refer to Section 02133(Stormwater Pollution Prevention)for more particulars on how to <br /> address pollution issues. <br /> 1.20 SAFETY <br /> A. Contractor, before beginning construction, is to provide, maintain and remove upon <br /> completion of work all barricades around openings and excavations, fences around <br /> areas and other temporary construction, warning signals, signs, and flagmen as required <br /> to direct traffic through the work area and or to redirect traffic to detours. <br /> B. The temporary work shall conform to all requirements of State and Local Authorities, and <br /> of the Underwriters in regard to operation, safety, and fire hazards. The Contractor shall <br /> furnish and complete all items necessary for such construction and for conformity with <br /> such requirements whether or not called for under the separate divisions of these <br /> spec�cations. <br /> C. Contractor agrees that he will assume sole and complete responsibility for job site <br /> conditions during the course of construction of this project, including safety of all persons <br /> and properly; that this requirement shall apply continuously and not be limited to normal <br /> working hours. <br /> 1.21 PROGRESS CLEANING <br /> A. Contractor shall pertorm periodic cleaning to ensure that any streets and other City and <br /> public properties are maintained free from accumulation of waste materials, dust, mud, <br /> and debris. <br /> B. Where required, Contractor shall wet down surfaces to lay dust and prevent the blowing <br /> of dust to nearby residences or public properties. <br /> C. Contractor shall keep all paved roads clean and free of dust, mud, and debris resulting <br /> from Contractor's operations. Daily cleanup throughout the job will be necessary as <br /> Contractor progresses with Work, but extra attention to cleanup shall be made prior to <br /> weekends and holidays.
