TO : Parks and Recreation Commission
FROM : Open Space Committee , Chairperson Knecht
DATE : February 23 , 1977
SUBJECT : UPDATING THE PARK & RECREATION ELEMENT OF THE GENERAL PLAN
The Open Space Committee met on February 23 , 1977 . Those present were
Commissioners Knecht , Anderson and Weintraub .
The Open Space Committee met to initiate their study and updating of
the park and recreation element of the general plan . This project was
chosen as the main objective for the Committee for the coming year .
The Committee reviewed the current parks and recreation element of the
general plan as approved in 1967 , together with the open space element
of the general plan as approved in 1975 . Several plans of action were
discussed by the Committee as to their approach for this study . It was
determined that the various sections in the parks and recreation element
would be analyzed by the entire Committee and other sections would be
assigned to individuals on the Committee to review and prepare suggestions
for the full Committee review . It was the consensus of the Committee
that as various sections of the plan were reviewed and revised , those
sections would be discussed with the entire Commission so as to receive
input from the Commission as the study progressed . It was felt that in
this manner , greater input could be received which would relate to the
entire plan during the revision process rather than to await the com-
pletion of the study .
The Committee agreed to proceed on this basis and shows the first four
sections of the plan for review prior to their next meeting which is
scheduled for March 21 , 1977 .
- 9-
