AGENDA ITEM 3 . Presentation by Trico Radio Club
Commissioner Anderson , a member of the Trico Radio Club , gave a brief
history of the club as well as citizen band radios and their use . Trico
Radio Club is a non - profit organization and has been in the community
since 1960 . They concern themselves mostly with the legalities of
radio communications and services to the community . During the 4th
of July Parade , the club had members positioned throughout the parade
route being watchful for any kind of emergency . The club also patrols
high school games which resulted in a vandalism drop of 95% since the
start of the patrols .
The club has monthly meetings along with activities during the month .
Tricots attendance has been between 35 -40 with most of the members
being adults . Commissioner Anderson informed the Commission that
there was no age limit , but interested persons had to have a license
from the FCC to join the club .
Mr . Weeks suggested that Trico might wish to conduct a session or two
so that the public could attend and learn about CB ' s . It would also
be good publicity for their club . Membership would probably increase
and more youth would be involved .
Mr . Weeks suggested that Trico Radio Club give the Parks and Recreation
Department patrol assistance in the parks . He indicated that he would
be consulting with the Police Chief about obtaining the reserves for
some patrolling and surveillance of the parks . He further indicated
that Mr . Peter Griffiths , Park Supervisor and also a Redwood City
Reserve Police Officer , has been conducting some patrols on his own
time and reports that they are quite effective and are well received
by the park patron . The Commission felt that bringing the reserve
officers and Trico Radio Club into the patrol of the parks would be
a very good idea .
AGENDA ITEM 4 . Agenda Discussion - Joint Meeting with Civic Cultural
Commission
Mr . Weeks indicated that he had discussed with the Civic Cultural Com-
mission various agenda items for their joint meeting . The Civic Cul -
tural Commission suggested that perhaps each commission might review
for the other some of the current projects which were underway by each
commission . Another suggestion was that both of the Commissions might
wish to discuss possible joint projects which may be possible in the
future . Commissioner Schlesinger asked if there were several areas in
which the two commissions overlapped . Mr . Weeks indicated that there
were .
Commissioner Weintraub suggested an item she would like discussed at
the joint meeting : the status of the downtown fountain . She under-
stood that the Civic Cultural Commission had taken over the project
- 3-
