PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
APRIL 1977
Redwood Shores Park Development
The construction work at Dolphin Parks I , II , and III and for the first
phase of Marlin II Park came to a stand still in April as a result of
the contractor ' s failure to meet the terms and obligations of the con -
tract . Action has been initiated with the bonding company to take over
the job and complete the work . In the meantime , no progress is being
made at the park sites .
Upon completion of the legal aspects of this situation , every effort
will be made to expedite the completion of the work with the new con-
tractors assigned by the bonding company .
Mezes Park
The completion of Mezes Park has also reached a stand still in that
the same contractor that was working at Redwood Shores was also working
at Mezes Park . The bonding company will be assigning new contractors
for this work after which time the work will be expedited to completion .
Canyon Park
The construction drawings for the first phase of Canyon Park are now
complete and are being reviewed for final plan check . Construction
estimates have been prepared , however , it has been determined that
the project will be delayed as a result of drought conditions . The
mandatory constraints resultant from the drought which prohibit new
irrigation connections as well as any new landscaping prohibits ini -
tiating the work for the first phase of development for the park .
Upon considering the Proposed Capital Improvement Program for fiscal
year 1977 -78 , it was suggested that funds from the 1976 State Park
Bond Act which are useable by the City , should be earmarked for the
future construction of Canyon Park when drought conditions will allow .
It is felt this will assure the construction of the park at the appro-
priate time .
-7 -
