RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> MAY 1977 <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTEREST CLASSES <br /> Spring special interest classes are coming to a close at the end of May <br /> and early June and registrations for summer classes began May 31 . <br /> The GUIDE program with the Sequoia High School Latino students finished <br /> up on May 19 , with a session at Wells Fargo Bank . The May 12 session <br /> was held at College of San Mateo with tours of various facilities offered <br /> there . An evaluation session is planned for June 2 , and students who <br /> attended five or more programs will be awarded certificates . <br /> Community Activities Building <br /> The Annual Rose Show was held here on May 7 and 8 . Weekends have been <br /> heavily scheduled with wedding receptions through the months of May , <br /> June and July . <br /> Veterans Memorial Building <br /> On May 3 , the Kennedy Band and Glee Club gave an hour presentation in <br /> song and concert to the Senior Citizens in the Little Theater . <br /> The Flower and Art Show was held on May 14 and 15 and the Redwood City <br /> Community Theater ' s production of " Under the Yum Yum Tree " opened on <br /> May 20 and will run for two more weekends . <br /> Wheelchair Day was held on Saturday , May 21 . Physically handicapped <br /> young persons and adults participated in a fun filled day just for <br /> them . Events for the day included : frisbee toss for accuracy , soft - <br /> ball throw for distance , wheel chair race ( obstacle course among cones ) <br /> for time , arm wrestling , circle toss for high score with ribbons and <br /> certificates given out for awards . Approximately 25 persons partici - <br /> pated and volunteers from the De Moley helped run some of the events . <br /> The Recreation Department provided punch and cookies to go along with <br /> bag lunches brought by everyone . They are looking forward to a pool <br /> party in July . <br /> Red Morton Center <br /> The last junior high dance of the spring was held on Saturday , May 7 <br /> with over 250 students enjoying the disco music provided by Steve Rood <br /> of K . F . R . C . This year over 1 , 200 teens participated in the Red Morton <br /> Teen Dances . The dances will begin again in September . <br /> - 12 - <br />
