a <br /> RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> JUNE 1977 <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTEREST CLASSES <br /> Registrations for summer classes began on May 31 , with most classes scheduled <br /> to begin during the weeks of June 20 and 27 . Response seems good for most of <br /> the classes . To date , the only classes cancelled were knitting , one child- <br /> ren ' s tap dance class , motorcycle tune-up , Chinese Cuisine and Chinese Bar- <br /> becue , and one lapidary class . The meditation class which is new is nearly <br /> full . <br /> RCCT finished their production of " Under the Yum Yum Tree " at the Veterans <br /> Building on June 3 and 4 and then did a special play of "Sleeping Beauty " <br /> for children on June 24 and 25 . <br /> The Fun-After- Fifty Club put on a special "Over 80 Birthday Party " on <br /> June 29 , with approximately 95 " Over 80 " ' s attending , the eldest being <br /> 94 years old . <br /> Red Morton Recreation Center <br /> Tuesday Nights at Hoover and Recreation Nights on Wednesdays at the Red <br /> Morton Center are now closed . Center facilities will be open for teens <br /> Monday through Friday from 7 : 00 p . m . to 9 : 00 p . m . <br /> During the summer , Center activities will be geared especially for Junior <br /> High Teens . Whiffle Ball Tournaments , new games , special art projects , <br /> and wilderness trips will be offered . The playground will be open for <br /> grade school ages and teens , Monday through Friday from 11 : 00 a . m . to <br /> 4 : 00 p . m . <br /> Teen Volunteers are a big part of the summer program . Their in- service <br /> training was June 20 - 24 . Areas covered included publicity , tiny tots , <br /> playground and learning how to be a leader . The volunteers are especially <br /> helpful with the Tiny Tot program and in providing assistance in the <br /> Center with the phone and handing out equipment . <br /> The Redwood City Parks & Recreation Department received an award for out- <br /> standing Walkathon performance , Tuesday June 28 , at the March of Dimes <br /> Awards Ceremony . Last year , Redwood City had 800 walkers and this year <br /> we had 1 ,800 walkers . Last year ' s pledges were $17 , 000 compared to this <br /> year ' s $40 , 000 . Everyone who participated did an outstanding job in <br /> the fight of birth defects . <br /> -9- <br />
