Commissioner Pound inquired as to the possibilities of the City building
a skateboard center . Mr . Weeks replied that the staff had discussed this
possibility and had investigated the matter in a preliminary way . It
was found that there are wide differences of opinion regarding public
operations and that liability is usually a deterrent . The concensus
seems to be that private operations of skateboard facilities are best .
He indicated that as yet , there had not been a significant demand for
a public facility . He offered to study the matter further if the Com-
mission desired .
Commissioner Pound also indicated that the supervised playground acti -
vities at Marlin Park were going very well , but she felt the kids at
Redwood Shores need to be involved with some of the activities that
are centered in the City . Her main concern was the recent Pinewood
Derby held at Stafford Park . She indicated that a lot of Redwood
Shores children were not able to get into Stafford Park for the Derby ,
and , therefore , missed out on an exciting and worthwhile event . She
inquired if the Redwood Shores parks could get the Pinewood Derby
track placed out at Marlin Park next year . Mr . Weeks indicated that
this was a possibility and could be looked into for next year ' s activity .
Commissioner Anderson indicated that the fence at Hoover Pool has been
cut in numerous places . He inquired if an alarm system could be installed
to keep vandals from cutting the fence . Mr . Weeks indicated that the
City is considering replacing the fence with a heavier fence ; however ,
this has been a continuing problem along with other vandalism and it
is nearly impossible to control .
MOTION : There being no further business , Commissioner Pound
moved , seconded by Commissioner Buckhout , to adjourn
the meeting . The motion carried unanimously by
voice vote and the meeting was adjourned at 10 : 18 p . m .
- 5-
