PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT SEPTEMBER 1977 Red Morton Park and Canyon Park The City Council , at their meeting of August 22 , 1977 , approved the applications and expenditure plan for the use of state funds for the development of Red Morton Park and Canyon Park . Following this approval , the applications for these funds , together with the supporting data , was submitted to the State Department of Parks & Recreation for their review and approval . The applications were submitted prior to the September 15 deadline and are now currently being reviewed by the State Liason Officer assigned to work with our City with respect to the use of state funds . Upon approval by the State , an agreement between the City and the State will be executed and the funds will be made available in July of 1978 for these projects . Fleishman Park and Spinas Park The applications to apply for state grant funds for the initial improve- ment of these parks , utilizing the Needs Grant Program of the Urban , Open Space , and Recreation Program of the State (more commonly known as SB174 ) have been completed . They were submitted to the City Council and were approved at their meeting of September 12 , 1977 . Subsequently the applications have been forwarded to the State Department of Parks and Recreation and were accepted prior to the October 1 , 1977 , deadline . The applications are currently under review by the Liason Officer of the State . Redwood Shores The work at Redwood Shores continues to progress . It is reported that the basic construction of the park areas with the exception of the land- scaping should be completed by the end of October . This will include the access walks , play areas , irrigation system and the tennis courts . There will be a delay in the electrical supply being extended to the park areas together with the lighting of the tennis courts . The delivery of the light standards and fixtures for the tennis court lighting will be delayed until January of 1978 . However , the courts will be completed and will be avail - able for play during daylight hours prior to this time . Additionally , the delivery of the merry- go-round for the play area is being delayed ; however , the balance of the play area will be available for use . -5 -
