_ ... �� � ��w � MOTION: Corr�nissioner Weintraub moved, seconded by Commis- sioner Pound, to maintain the State Park Bond Funds totalling $191 ,273 for the Canyon Park Pro- ject and to investigate the possibility of develop- ing the park on a low maintenance basis. The motion passed 5 ayes to 0 noes (2 absences) . It is the Comnission's wish that Canyon Park not be totally deferred. Comnissioner Hayes inquired if the $100,000 donated by the Herkner Founda- tion could be used alone for renovation of a portion of the pool facility. Mr. Weeks indicated that the City had entered into an agreement with the Herkner Committee for the completion of Phase I of the pool and that unless the agreement was changed, the $100,000 would not accomplish the work necessary. Commissioner Pound inquir,ed as to how the Herkner Foundation Comnittee decided where the $100,000 would go. Mr. Week�s indicated that due to Mr. Herkner's past interest in swimming the Comnittee requESted the money be used towards the renovation and expansion of the pool . After considerable discussion, Mr. Weeks indicated he would contact Phil Singer to see if he would be available for a special Commission meeting to discuss the options for Canyon Park. He further indicated he would assemble some background data for the report to the Council . ROUND TABLE (GOMMISSIONER W�INTRAUB LEFT AT 9:50 P.M.) Commissioner Pound inquired if Neptune Beach in Redwood Shores was being taken care of by the Park Department and if it is swimmable. Mr. Weeks indicated the Park Department does clean up the beach, and that if the Health Department had not posted the area otherwise, the water should be safe to swim in. Commissioner Castle inquired as to the possibility of a tour of the parks in the City. He indicated he would like some history of the parks for better understanding of them during discussions. It was agreed a date would be established for a tour. Commissioner Castle also inquired as to the status of the jogging course taTked about at an earlier meeting. Mr. Weeks stated that the J.C. Penny Co. was investigating the possibilities of funding the project, however, they had not yet notified the Department as to their decision. MOTION: There being nofurther business, Comnissioner Hayes moved, seconded by Commissioner Pound, to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote and the meeting was adjourned at 9:57 p.m. , -4-
