1 f <br /> �,�, � <br /> � � <br /> Mr. Weeks indicated that recruiting has begun for a full-time Gardener/ <br /> Caretaker who would work weekends as part of his job. The balance of <br /> time would be during the regular work week. This person would be avail- <br /> able for clean up, surveillance, assisting patrons using the areas and <br /> possibly handling a reservation system for Red Morton Park. He would <br /> have radio cornrnunication with the Police & Fire Dispatcher in case of <br /> an emergency. He would work throughout the City's parks. <br /> Mr. Weeks indicated that the lighting in the area of the ball diamonds <br /> should provide partial lighting for the picnic and play area. Discus- <br /> sion continued on the pros and cons of lightinc� the picnic and play- <br /> ground areas. A lighting alternate will be investigated. <br /> Mr. Weeks pointed out the areas where the trees would be planted. He <br /> indicated pine trees, white alder trees, tulip trees and flowering plum <br /> trees would be planted in the area. He is anticipating the area will <br /> be ready for use by mid summer 1979. <br /> AGENDA ITEM 3. Discussion - Commissian's Role : Corranunity Action <br /> Chairman Anderson indicated that this agenda item was brought to the <br /> attention of the Commission resultant from a conversation the Commis- <br /> sioners had during the park tour. It was felt the Commission should <br /> get involved in more activities with the comnunity of Redwood City and <br /> demonstrate more initiative in soliciting support for recreation issues. <br /> It was suggested that the Community & Commission Relations Committee <br /> be involved in disc�ssing with neighborhood groups some of the problems <br /> occuring in the park areas around the city, i .e. the continuing problem <br /> of children cutting through the fence at Maddux Park to get to Henry <br /> Ford School ; and the vandalism problem at Hoover Pool . <br /> h1r. t�leeks suggested to forward this agenda item to the December meeting <br /> when Commissioners Castle, Hayes, and Weintraub (who were part of the <br /> discussion during the park tour) would be present. <br /> REPORT ITEM l . Monthl_v Reports <br /> MOTION: Commissioner Schlesinger moved, seconded by Commis- <br /> sioner Pound, to accept the monthly reports as <br /> submitted. The motion passed unanimously by voice <br /> vote. <br /> OTNER <br /> Mr. �deeks indicated that while attending a meeting in Sacramento he <br /> talked with the State Department of Parks & Recreation concerning the <br /> status of the Community Swimming Pool Project application.
