 . ,
The Islands & Circles Maintnance crew were able to initiate the renova-
tion of the island at Arch & Broadway. In that the area was quite over-
grown, surveillance problems were developing. The area will be replanted
to low growing plant material and turf which will also tend to reduce
the maintenance requirements for the island.
Even though the lack of rainfall has not as yet become critical , it has
necessitated the use of the sprinkler systems in many of the landscaped
areas beyond the normal expectations for this late in the year. This
has resulted in an increase in the maintenance of the operating systems
and has delayed some of the normal preventative maintenance usually accom-
plished during the winter months.
The Building and Facility Maintenance crew were heavily involved during
the month in the maintenance and replacement of play apparatus equipment.
Apparatus which was purchased at the close of last fiscal year prior to
Proposition 13 has now been installed. The play area on Madison Avenue
in Red Morton Park received a new merry-go-round. New spring horses were
installed at Chestnut Park, Red Morton Park, Marlin Park, Westwood Park,
and Maddux Park. Animal swings were installed in Spinas Park, Red Morton
Park, and Stafford Park.
-7-
