Mr. Weeks said he believes the Planniag Comnission,
as do other conmissions, has an obligation to see that the plan, once evolved, is
implemented.
Mr. Knecht said he believes mini parks often fill a need, to which Mrsm Wintraub
responded that she believes our goal should be to develop the cfty to such an extent
that mini parks are no longer necesary. Mr. Knecht said he believes we shauld not
abandon small play areas. Mr. Guida said he feels tnat any time a parcel of ground
is considered which might be develoned into a mini park, .t shou2d have the poten-
tiolity of being enlarged at a later date, since the overall goal should be for laxGe:
parks. The top priority would be to develop adequate neighborhood facilities.
Mr. Schenck referred to Page 7, asking whether the guidelines for acreage are what
they should be. Mr. Weeks replied that they may need changing as time goes on,
although 5 acres is reasonable on a neighborhood basis.
Mr. Guida questioned the Giting of high school field areas as park and recreatian
facilities, questioning how much the 5equoia axid Woodside High School gxounds are
available for public use. He belfeves there should be more land and does not see
how the high school fields can be given much consideration since they are not ener-
ally available for public useo
Mrs. Weintraub felt that 8-year-old information is not aeceptable in a current repo•rt.
She felt the follawing should be brought up at the Counci2 meeting: 1) Use of high
school grounds, 2) Priorities re park development, and 3) "t+iini parks" as opposed
to "play lots". In most areas these are no .onger being considered.
Mr. Guida stated that on Page 9, under "Outdoor Recreation", Cordilleras Creek
should certainly not be cited as a recreation area because primarily it runs througz
residents' back ya:ds. We do not have the recreation area showno Mr. Weke repl.ed
that these acreap,es are not used in he actual acreage figures, but are showr. merely
as existing open space within the city.
Page 11, Paragraph 6 - Mr. Guida referred to the statesnent that "The city will woxk
cooperatively with adjoining municipalities and the County in the development of et,
space extencied beyond the corpor.ate limits", such as Hassler Health Iiome. Mr, Guida
said he believes thi_s should be placed high on the priorities list. .
rir. Schenck said he believes the paragraph on mini parks should be reworded to express
the idea the Parks and Recreation Counnission will be Iooking to larger open space
aiui neighborhood parks as a gal, with the idea that "play lots" be used to describe
temporary facilities.
Mr. Weeks asked whether it is the intent of the group to have a caember present st
the meeting to express these ideas. Mr. Schenck said he wil.l attend the meetinge
- 2 -
