Mr. Scheack said he feel we are def3nitely
going to set goals and work ahead, Mrs. Pound mentioned that with the energy crisis
it is even more important that ne.ghborhood parks be deelopeda
Mrs. WeinCraub said thaC all through the report mention is made of the "tiackdre+p of
Redwood City hills" as being the last open space, yet it is now being chopped up.
Mr. Schenck said it is imperative trat any open space available should be purchased,
Mr, gollins suggested that the Conission mighC point our specific property which
might be purchased such as the Santa Clara property and 5 acres on Mohican Way.
Mrs. Weintraub said it is foolhardy for the City not to acquire whatever ogen space
it can. Mr. Weeks said this should be handled through the Open Space Committee and
the priorities will have to be weighed with the ability of the City to obtain them.
Mrs. Weintraub referred to Page 27, Line 2, '°,..,..would not be mandatoy" to con-
sult the Parks and Recreation Conission re open space, as this is the advisory bndys
Mre Schenck then asked for reiCeration of comments to be brought to the Cuncil:
1) "Mini parks" as a word is passe' . Neighborhood parks and larger areas are ore
itnportant. "Tot loCa" and "play areas" should be used rather than mini parkss
and only as temporary measures.
2) Re acreage: The Coiasion wishes the opportunity to review in depth with the
Planning Camfasion the restudy of the open space elemext; acreage rel.ationsl.iip
to population, etc.
3) The statemnts in the review pxocess should be changed zo show that it is
mandatory that the Park and Recreation Coission be includled in studies
recommended to Councile
4) There is a great lack of open space. The study shows high schools ancl elemena
tary schools as available open space, but the Commission fels they are not
availab2e to the extent the3► should be.
3. Aiscussion of Quimb,y AcC
The various ramifications of the park dedication and assessment fee act known
as the Quimby Act were discussed. Additionallp, the changes which were being
propoeed ia AB 1367 were discussed. Zt was pointed out that this bill was still
fn cammittee. Mr. Guida read a Ietter he had received from Assemblyman Dixan
Arnett which stated thaC for the time being he would prefer to rel.y on the present
stae of the law rather than on the provisions of the proposed bill AB 1367.
- 3 -
