Bustos inquired as to whether the city could provide a gymnasium which his organization could use for night practices . It was pointed out that the city did not have a suitable facility , but that one might be available through the high school district or Canada College . Mr . Weeks suggested that Mr . Bustos contact the department staff , who will attempt to assist in finding such a facility . He additionally encouraged Mr . Bustos to initiate contacts with neighboring communities who have lighted facilities and with the county and school district . MOTION : It was moved by Commissioner Pound and seconded by Commissioner Aldrich to refer to staff the request for facilities from Asociacion Civil Hidalgo . The motion carried unanimously by voice vote . It was agreed that the Department staff would arrange a meeting with all soccer groups to discuss facilities and schedules . AGENDA ITEM 2 . Review of Plan for Turfing Belmont Elementary School Site - Redwood Shores Mr . Weeks indicated that the City has now reached an agreement with the Belmont School District regarding the turfing at the elementary school site in Redwood Shores . He reminded the Commission that negotiations regarding this project have been going on for almost two years . He indicated that the final action to be taken before the project could be advertised for bid would be approval by the school district board and the Redwood City Council . Mr . Weeks briefed the Commission on the Redwood Shores neighborhood meeting , which was held to fully explain the project to those residents who lived immedi - ately adjacent to the elementary school site . He indicated that those who had attended the meeting generally seemed pleased that the project was beginning . He also informed the Commission that a petition had been circulated among resi - dents whose property backed up to the school site , and that the response had been overwhelmingly favorable to the project . Utilizing a site layout plan Mr . Weeks then briefed the Commission on the pro- posed construction and some of the provisions of the agreement . Mr . Weeks estimated that there would undoubtedly be some use of this area by late summer . REPORTS REPORT ITEM 1 - Bud9et Committee Report Mr . Weeks briefed the Commission on the economic climate with respect to the availability of funds for the Capital Improvement Program . He indicated that the department had been asked to prepare only a one-year capital improvement program -4-
