7
In response to a request from Commissioner Rollins , Mr . Weeks reviewed the
elements which would be included in the first phase of Palm Park develop-
ment . He indicated that these elements would be site preparation , grading ,
drainage , irrigation , and turfing . It will also include the installation
of the basic play apparatus area , providing the walk and partial curb area
around it . However , there will be no sand or play apparatus installed in
the area at this time . This will await further funding in Phase II .
MOTION : Commissioner Wilson moved to accept the Department
Monthly Reports seconded by Commissioner Aldrich .
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote .
B . OTHER REPORTS
The commissioners received revisions to the proposed Redwood City Bikeways
Plan . Mr . Weeks asked each commissioner to place these revisions in their
individual copies of the plan . He further asked the Commission to take some
time during the next month to review the plan as the topic would appear as
an agenda item for the April regular Commission meeting . Further input
received at that meeting would be forwarded to the Public Works Department .
ROUND TABLE
Commissioner Aldrich inquired if the Commission minutes could be forwarded
within a week after Commission meeting , so that commissioners might more
easily recall whether they accurately reflect what happened at the meetings .
Mr . Weeks indicated that mailing minutes separately from reports would be
costly , and that providing the minutes within a week ' s time would be diffi -
cult on the staff at this time . He reminded the Commission that presently
they receive their minutes further in advance than any other City organiza-
tion , even the City Council . He voiced further concern about the continuity
lost in not receiving reports and minutes at the same time , but indicated
that if the Commission felt it essential to have the minutes sent separately ,
the Department would attempt to comply . He said that at this time it would
be very difficult due to the fact that the Commission has no recording
secretary .
( Commissioner Aldrich left the room at 9 : 01 P . M . )
Recreation Superintendent Paulson briefed the Commission on a recent meeting
held to discuss the possibility of establishing a weekend reservation policy
for tennis courts at Red Morton Community Park . He indicated that 90 notices
had been sent to participants of the Department ' s tennis tournaments and
that an announcement had been placed in the newspaper . He said that he was
somewhat disappointed that only four persons showed up for the meeting but
that those in attendance thought the reservation policy was a good idea . He
indicated that there was some question as to whether the policy should apply
to both Saturday and Sunday . He suggested that as a pilot program , the
Department would probably initiate the reservation policy only on Saturday ,
but that if the interest were shown to exist , the program would be expanded
to both days . He indicated a fee would be charged in order to make the
program self- sustaining .
-4-
