PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT
DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT
MAY 1976
Redwood Shores Park Development
The construction drawings and specifications for Dolphin Parks I , II ,
and III and for the first phase of Marlin II Park are in the final
stages of preparation . The staff together with the consultant , Recrea -
tion Land Planners , met for a final review of the plans and specifica -
tions May 27 . Various corrections and alterations resultant from this
meeting are now being incorporated into the plans by the consultant .
The Salt Water Intrusion Test Project being conducted by the Public Works
Department was delayed approximately two weeks resultant from vandalism
at the test site . The covers for the test wells were vandalized and the
wells were filled with large rocks . The removal of these rocks was
extremely difficult thus delaying the pumping of the test water from
the wells from which the data is being accumulated regarding the salt
water intrusion problem . New covers have now been secured on to the
wells and pumping has resumed on a daily basis . It should be noted that
the final drainage plans and specifications for the construction of the
park areas must await the completion and the results of this test project .
Any delay in the completion of the project will , of course , delay the
completion of the plans and the calling for bids for the park construction .
Every effort is being made to expedite these park projects as much as is
practical . Barring further unforeseen circumstances the current schedules
now indicate that bids can be called for the latter part of June or the
first part of July .
Belmont School District Site - - Redwood Shores
The construction work for the grading , irrigation , and turfing of the area
at the Belmont School District site in Redwood Shores is now approximately
80% complete . The irrigation has been installed , final grading of the area
is now under way , and the sodding of the area is scheduled for the first
part of June . The softball diamond has been laid out and the backstop is
scheduled to be installed the first week of June .
Palm Park
Pre-construction meetings have been held with the Landscaping Division of
the Davey Tree Surgery Company , the contractor for the first phase of
construction of Palm Park . Current schedules call for work to be under
-8 -
