PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT MONTHLY REPORT
DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT
JUNE 1976
Redwood Shores Park Development
The salt water intrusion test project being conducted by the Public
Works Department in preparation for the construction of the new parks
at Redwood Shores , has again been vandalized which will result in a
delay of the project . The vandals were successful in completely
removing the center drain pipe which was essential for measuring the
water table return for the test area . A joint meeting with the Public
Works Department , the Department of Parks & Recreation and the Soils
Engineer Consultant was held to discuss the problem and to review the
test data thus far collected for the project . It was determined that
the Public Works Department will attempt to insert a new pipe to replace
the one destroyed with the hopes of being able to obtain final data so
that conclusions can be made relative to the future drainage criteria
for the park projects . It is hoped that the new pipe can be inserted
and the final data collected prior to the end of July so that the pro-
ject can be finalized .
Except for a few minor changes , the construction plans and specifications
for the park projects are completed . The processing of the plans and
specifications for calling for bids is awaiting the final decisions
relative to the salt water intrusion problem . The continued vandalizing
of the test project results in continued delay of the total project .
Every effort will be made to expedite the construction of the parks as
much as is practical .
Belmont School District Site - Redwood Shores
The construction work for the installation of the turf area and the
softball diamond at the Belmont School District Site in Redwood Shores
is now complete . The project has moved into the contractor ' s maintenance
stage so as to assure a good turf when accepted by the City .
Palm Park
The construction of the first phase of development of Palm Park is well
under way . The rough grading has been completed and the underground
drainage system is being installed . The irrigation installation will
be initiated the first part of July followed by the turfing of the area .
The project was delayed somewhat by the warehousemen ' s strike which
effected the delivery of drain pipe material . It is felt , however , that
the project should still be nearly completed by the end of July .
- 7 -
