� � <br /> . �r+ `'� <br /> Mr. Ferrando briefly reviewed these circumstances for the Commission and <br /> indicated that staff had met and had formulated several guidelines for the <br /> Comrnission's consideration. The proposed guidelines were then reviewed <br /> and Mr. Ferrando cormiented on the rational which went into their formula- <br /> tion. Considerable discussion ensued with respect to the acceptability of <br /> the guidelines, their ease of interpretation and the possible administra- <br /> tive workload they might generate. The Comnission expressed concern that <br /> the Department would become inundated with requests for sales in connection <br /> with fund raising activities and feared that interpretations. of the various <br /> ordinances and regulations concerning the matter would become an administra- <br /> tive burden. The possibility and acceptability of the Comnission becoming <br /> an appeal body for interpretation and disputes was also discussed. <br /> P4r. Weeks reviewed for the Comnission the circumstances which prompted the <br /> Commission to consider revising the policy, including the increasing num- <br /> ber of requests which had been received in recent months to vend beer at <br /> park related activities. In response to Commissioner Schlesinger's inquiry <br /> as to the number of complaints about the current no sale policy, Mr. Weeks <br /> stated that no particular complaints had been received but that the policy <br /> had been questioned especially by those who wished to sell beer. He fur- <br /> ther indicated that afte.r the Comnission's intent to review the policy had <br /> been made public, the Department had received several letters and caiments <br /> on the matter, all opposing any change to the existing policy. <br /> Commissioner Knecht inquired whether or not a reaffirmation of the exist- <br /> ing policy prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages would present any <br /> particular problems to staff. Mr. Weeks indicated that the Department <br /> was prepared to implement and administer any policy which the Commission <br /> felt was in the best interest of the public. Rt the conclusion of the <br /> discussion the following motion was made: <br /> MOTION: Commissioner Ro]lins moved to reaffirm the policy <br /> of prohibiting the sale of beer or wine and other <br /> alcoholic beverages in park areas and buildings, <br /> seconded by Carmissioner Schlesinger. The motion <br /> carried unanimously by a voice vote. <br /> ROUNDTABLE <br /> Mr. Weeks advised the Commission that he would be on vacation between <br /> September 6 and 27. <br /> Commissioner Buckhout comnented on a recent article in the Redwood City <br /> Tribune favorably highlighting Redwood City's parks and recreation facili- <br /> ties. <br /> MOTION: Commissioner Weintraub moved, seconded by <br /> Commissioner Aldrich that the meeting be <br /> adjourned. The motion carried unanimously <br /> by voice vote and the meeting was adjourned <br /> at 11 :09 p.m. <br /> - 6 - <br />
