Commissioner Pound stated that she thought the members of the Recreation <br /> Division should be congratulated on the efforts they have put forth in <br /> developing a " Special Needs Program" for the handicapped . Superintendent <br /> Paulson spoke briefly on the problems the staff is encountering in get - <br /> ting the program started and in keeping them going . Cornunissioner Knecht <br /> suggested to the GAP students present that getting involved in a program <br /> assisting the mental and physically handicapped would be a worthwhile <br /> and gratifying experience for any high school student . <br /> MOTION : Commissioner Weintraub moved to accept the <br /> Department Monthly Reports , seconded by <br /> Commissioner Schlesinger . The motion <br /> carried unanimously by voice vote . <br /> ROUND TABLE <br /> Commissioner Weintraub commented on an excellent article entitiled " Youth <br /> Representative Heads Commission " , which appeared in the October issue of <br /> the news letter of the California Association of Parks and Recreation <br /> Commissioners and Board Members . For the benefit of the GAP students <br /> present , Commissioner Weintraub read the article which was about the <br /> 17-year old Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission of the City <br /> of Baldwin Park . Chairperson Pound said that she would like to see a <br /> youth representative on the Redwood City Parks and Recreation Commission . <br /> Mr . Weeks indicated that a vacancy exists and that if any GAP student <br /> was personally interested or knew of someone who might be interested in <br /> serving , then they should go to the City Clerk ' s office to make an appli - <br /> cation . <br /> Commissioner Weintraub inquired as to when the new Commissioner would <br /> be appointed by the Council . Mr . Weeks replied that applications were <br /> now being taken and that the Council would conduct interviews before <br /> their November Regular Business Meeting . <br /> There being no further business , Commissioner Weintraub moved , seconded <br /> by Commissioner Buckhout , that the meeting be adjourned . The motion <br /> carried unanimously by voice vote and the meeting was adjourned at <br /> 9 : 54 p . m . <br /> - 6- <br />
