The motion passed
unanimously by voice vote .
Report Item 3 . - Monthly Reports
Mr . Weeks indicated that the Council had approved the calling for bids
for the Redwood Shores Parks . The low bid was approximately $243 ,830 .
Mr . Weeks stated that Alternate 3-the dock at Dolphin III - had been
dropped from the project due to insufficient funds to cover all alter-
nates . He said that hopefully construction could be underway within
a month .
Mr . Weeks indicated that he had just received from the San Mateo County
Parks & Recreation Commission , a letter addressed to the Redwood City
Parks and Recreation Commission regarding the imminent closing of Sears-
ville Lake . Mr . Weeks then read the letter which indicated the County
Commission ' s opposition to the closure of the lake without a study to
determine the impact of such action . The letter also requested the
support of Redwood City ' s Commission in opposing this closure . Com-
missioner Buckhout indicated that the lake had already been closed
and that he doubted that there would be substantial impact . Discus-
sion ensued with respect to the advisability of taking any action
when it appeared that the lake had already been closed .
MOTION : Commissioner Knecht moved that the Commission
take no action on the matter of the closure
of Searsville Lake , seconded by Commissioner
Buckhout . The motion carried on the following
vote : Ayes - Commissioners Buckhout , Knecht ,
Schlesinger , and Weintraub ; Nos - Commissioner
Pound .
Mr . Weeks paraphrased a letter recently received from the San Mateo
County Regional Planning Committee which outlined the Committee ' s pro-
posed park and open space policy and solicited modifications to be
returned to the Committee before December 2 , 1976 . He read the pro-
posed policy to the Commission and indicated several places where he
felt the policy could be strengthened . Commissioner Pound inquired
as to whether the letter had been directed to the Commission . Mr .
Weeks indicated that it had been referred to him from the City Manager .
Chairperson Pound stated that she felt that this was a Council and
staff matter and that Mr . Weeks , being familiar with the Commission ' s
opinion on several of these matters , could adequately prepare a reply .
-4-
