CIVIC CULTURAL COMMISSION Minutes of Meeting September 2 , 1976 Page 2 was sponsored in Burlingame and another in Central Park , San Mateo , as well as the series at Sunshine Cottage , Another series is now being conducted at the Hillsdale Mall , including poetry reading . Menlo Park has indicated an interest in having a similar series in their downtown park . The Council will be willing to assist us in sponsoring such a series in Redwood City. These have been budgeted at $100 per program . They are adver- tised by news stories and fliers throughout the downtown area . If we wish to present such a program , Mr . Nemoyten would like to have a letter from us indicating our interest . The Council operates four mini galleries and is hoping to ex- pand to five and eventually six , and plans to build up a fine permanent art gallery . The Neighborhood Arts granting program is now gone , as Federal monies have not been renewed , so a new source of funding is being sought ° The City Spirit program has been operating in the schools , mainly in the Fair Oaks area . The Council is working to promote an arts ordinance at the County level whereby the County will be mandated to set aside a certain percentage of its money for the arts . Plans for any new County building should make provision for a certain per- centage to be allocated for the purchase of art works . The first Chelsea Arts Ball is being planned for New Year ' s Eve . It will be held in the new ballroom of the Airport Hilton and the theme will be old - time movies . Floats will be featured . The Council has worked with the Fair Oaks Community Center in producing its Multicultural Arts Fair , A master cultural calendar of events has been started recently in the hope of avoiding conflicting art events throughout the County . The Council has produced a 16 mm . , 15-minute film on the history of San Mateo County , narrated by Bing Crosby , assisted by Mery Griffin , which will be distributed by the Historical Association . Copies are being ordered by some of the schools at a cost of about $1000 AGENDA ITEM 2 : Mr . Weeks gave background on the Conflict of Interest Code .
