1 ' <br /> CIVIC CULTURAL C0S9MISSI01 <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> September 1 , 1977 Page 3 <br /> AGENDA ITEM 2 -- Committee Structure : ( Cony d ) <br /> The current status of the Fox Theater renovation was also reviewed , <br /> Chairman Poncia reported that she had talked to the owner , who in <br /> turn had invited any of the Commissioners to visit the facility <br /> at any time and he would be happy to show them through the theater , <br /> It was also pointed out that there is a distinct possibility that <br /> the Commission could be in a position to sponsor various perform- <br /> ances in the theater and that the owner was quite receptive to <br /> working with the Commission to this end „ It was suggested that <br /> the Performing Arts Committee consider this as one of their ob- <br /> jectives and pursue the possibilities . Commissioner Graycar in- <br /> dicated that the Philharmonic Association had discussed the possi - <br /> bility of utilizing the theater for their performances . He felt <br /> there could be opportunities for the Commission to cosponsor <br /> performances with the Philharmonic Association , but Mr . Weeks <br /> pointed out that the Department had arranged for two concerts <br /> to be given by the 15th Air Force Band during the latter part <br /> of Augusta One concert was at Stafford Park and the other was <br /> in the downtown area . They were excellent concerts and were both <br /> well attended . The one in the downtown area was attended by ap- <br /> proximately 350 persons . <br /> Chairman Poncia suggested that the chairperson of each committee <br /> get in touch with Mr . Weeks to arrange for appropriate committee <br /> meeting times , It was suggested that the committees should attempt <br /> to meet at least once before the regular October meeting . However <br /> it was pointed out that this might be a very difficult schedule s <br /> for all the committees to meet , and it was therefore agreed that <br /> only the Cultural Heritage , Performing Arts , and Visual Arts Com- <br /> mittee would attempt to meet prior to the October meeting It <br /> was further agreed , however , that all committees should meet <br /> within the next couple of months . Mr. Weeks pointed out that if <br /> particular needs arise , the staff would call for a meeting of the <br /> appropriate committee , <br /> Commissioner Kennedy requested , and was granted permission , to <br /> leave the meeting early because of other commitments , <br /> AGENDA ITEM 3 Library Mural : <br /> Chairman Poncia reported that Jean Nixon , the student working on <br /> the library mural , was now ready to present the final concept <br /> sketches to the Commission for approval prior to proceeding with <br /> the project . In an effort to save time , Chairman Poncia requested <br /> that the Commission meet for a special meeting on September 15 , <br /> 1977 , at 8 : 00 , p . m . , for the express purpose of considering the <br />
