MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A. City Council Member Reports of Conferences Attended
Council Member Bain reported on substituting at a Dumbarton Rail Corridor
Subcommittee meeting and these are the "takeaways": there was a directional motion to
continue such group but reducing the number of inembers, due to quorum issues,
exploring funding mechanisms, and continue efforts to place passenger Rail in the
Corridor. He also explained how Measure BB from Alameda County is tied to this group.
He added that specific next steps will be determined by this regional subcommittee.
Council Member Bain also reported that he and Council Member Howard are part of the
Public Art subcommittee and he was happy to report that they are moving forward with
the Utility Box program. He is confident the Council will like it and he gave details about
the program and he is excited about this initiative.
Council Member Pierce reported that she was briefed by Shamus Murphy and Kasey
from the CalTrain Modernization Group regarding height of the platforms and
compatibility. She found this very educational and this is a subject that is prone to a lot
of debate and she found that Shamus and Kasey are putting a lot of due diligence on
this matter.
Vice Mayor Foust said that she also had a recent briefing like Council Member Pierce
and it was fascinating to see how three counties work together. She is also a participant
and an auditor of the Stanford Entrepreneurial Boot Camp and she is so impressed with
the speakers, the homework, teachers and the various modules. She said that the City
now has 30 ambassadors who want to promote this program and she gave kudos to this
Council for negotiating the Stanford Agreement that included this kind of educational
program.
Mayor Gee thanked the City Clerk Vonderlinden and her team and Teri Chin for their
hard work in hosting the Town Hall meeting on October 30, 2014 as the meeting was
both to celebrate the Fair Oaks Community Center 40th Anniversary and there were
over 100 people in the audience. Mayor Gee asked everyone to vote as tomorrow is
Election Day. He also acknowledged receipt of a letter from a senior Woodside High
School student who wants to alert everyone littering in our roadways is a concern.
