The City has approximately 226 acres of active developed
parkland and approximately 700 acres of designated open space (City of Redwood City 2010a).
Chapter 30, Section 30.143 of the Redwood City Municipal Code (Parkland Standard)requires
new subdivisions provide active parkland at the ratio of 3 acres to each new 1,000 people that
the new development would potentially house. With a population2 of 75,193 and 226 acres of
active parkland, the City maintains its standard of 3 acres of parkland per 1,000 persons.
The addition of approximately 25 persons to City's population from the project would not
exceed the City's parkland standard ratio. The project is required to pay a park in-lieu fee,
which will help create new parks within the City and help maintain the City's parkland
standard ratio.Furthermore, the project would also provide open space amenities for the
proposed dwelling units including outdoor porches, common open space areas, as well as a
small playground on-site. The project would not result in the deterioration of existing facilities
from overuse or result in the construction or expansion of new facilitates. Impacts are less than
significant.
2 Based on 2006 to 2010 American Community Survey data.
La Palma Subdivision Project
Final Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration
56
