35 9 <br /> Report re Waterfowlers <br /> There being no objection, Mayor Weymouth announced con- <br /> sideration out of order of the subject item. <br /> F•"• City Manager Fales referred to his report of April 17, <br /> 1975 regarding the request from the Waterfowlers Associ- <br /> ation to amend the City Code to allow the use of shot- <br /> guns in certain areas. <br /> At the request of Mayor Weymouth, City Clerk Hildebrand <br /> read a letter of April 25, 1975 addressed to City Manager <br /> Fales from D. G. Warren, Mobil Oil Estates (Redwood) <br /> Limited, urging that no shotguns be permitted within <br /> the boundaries of GID No. 1-64, and urging further that <br /> the activities of the Waterfowlers Association be accom- <br /> modated, if possible, in appropriate areas. <br /> Discussion followed and Mr. Fales and City Attorney <br /> Schricker replied to questions concerning the areas of <br /> the baylands where shotguns are proposed to be allowed <br /> to be discharged . <br /> Walter Stieglitz Refuge Manager for the Fish and Wild- <br /> life Service, 3g49 Peralta, Fremont, spoke in support of <br /> permitting the use of shotguns in specific baylands <br /> within the City. Mr. Stieglitz advised that his agency <br /> intends to permit waterfowl hunting in parts of Depart- <br /> ment of Fish and Game lands. He added that his agency <br /> will post boundary signs and sensitive areas will be <br /> closed . Mr. Stielgitz replied to questions from Council <br /> and from Mr. Fales and City Attorney Schricker regarding <br /> the plans and intentions of his agency. <br /> John Fritz, Chairman, President, Waterfowlers Association, <br /> 1352 Norman Street, urged amendment of the City Code to <br /> permit waterfowl hunting in certain areas of the baylands <br /> within the City. Mr. Fritz replied to questions concern- <br /> ing waterfowl hunting. <br /> MOTION: Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman <br /> Barrett ( see p. 8 below) , to allow waterfowl hunting <br /> with shotguns only in the Bay and tidelands with the <br /> exceptions contained in the report of the City Manager <br /> of April 17, 1975. <br /> (Exceptions : <br /> "a. All of Steinberger Slough <br /> b. All of Smith Slough <br /> c . All of Belmont Slough <br /> d. All of Redwood Creek <br /> e. Within 500 yards of a residential or industrial <br /> building <br /> ""' f. Within 500 yards of any marked channel. " and <br /> «. "1. Prohibitions <br /> a .
