38
City Manager - Account 1\c1. 410 (pp 10-11)
Mayor Weymouth noted that approval of Account No. 410
had been deferred pending receipt of additional infor-
mation concerning the position of Engineering Adminis-
trative Assistant. City Manager Fales advised in re-
sponse to question that elimination of the position
would mean that those duties would need to be absorbed ...r
by himself and the Assistant City Manager, and would
result in less work being accomplished , other than
housing and community development matters. He stated
that experience has shown that this is a full-time
position. As an alternative , retention of the position
at a lower salary range of $1105-1470 would result in a
saving of approximately $6,000.
MOT:rON : Councilman Norris mo ed , seconded by Councilman
Rhodes, that the Engineering Administrative Assistant
position be deleted from the budget .
Discussion followed in which concern was expressed as to
the effects on the functioning of the City Manager' s de-
partment if the position is eliminated . Mr. Fales advised
that elimination of the position altogether would save
approximately $13 ,000 and added that he had no qualms
with respect to eliminating any position, if it is in
{ the interest of the community, but that if staff is to
accomplish what is expected to be done , with one less
net total position , it will be harder, take longer and
in sor rases would not be done. °""'►
The motion failed on the following roll call vote :
Ayes : Councilmen Leipzig, Norris, Rhodes
Noes : Councilmen Barrett, Henderson, Williams and
Mayor Weymouth
MOTION : Councilman Henderson moved, seconded by Council-
man Williams , to approve inclusion in the City Manager
budget of the position of A ministrative Aide at the
lower salary range .
The motion carried on the following roll call vote :
Ayes : Councilmen Barrett, Henderson, Leipzig, Norris,
Williams and Mayor Weymouth
Noes : Councilman Rhodes
City Manager - T\.c c- No. 570
_ Community Promotion PP5)
City Manager Pales reviewed the costs for the preparation,
pub .iction and mailing of the quarterly newsletter, and
indicated that the net savings of approximately $2900
could result if addressing and mailing costs are eliminated
and the newsletter distrinuted through other means.
