He provided typical examples <br /> of expected life of various types of vehicles, along <br /> with replacement costs. City Manager Fales also noted <br /> the recent purchase of used passenger vehicles, and a <br /> report will be made at a later time with respect to <br /> maintenance experience for those. <br /> MOTION : Councilman Henderson moved, seconded by Council- <br /> man Norris to approve Account No. 465. <br /> The motion carried unanimously on voice vote. <br /> Fire Protection - Account No. 530 (pp 50 <br /> City Manager Fales briefly reviewed the account, indi- <br /> r.ating that the proposed budget for this Department is <br /> essentially the same as for last year' s program, but <br /> reflects increasing costs required to do the same things <br /> accomplished last year. He noted that a study of loca- <br /> tions for fire stations is being reviewed; that proposed <br /> ..�, additional equipment include a hot spot locator, con- <br /> tinuing fire hose replacement, five radio fire alarm <br /> boxes from Revenue Sharing Funds, and fire simulator <br /> for training purposes from General Fund. <br /> During a discussion which followed, Council inquired as <br /> to the feasibility oe' consolidation of the Police and <br /> Fire services, ard Mr. Fales advised that the only way <br /> possible would be in the consolidation of communications. <br /> MOTION: Councilman Norris moved that the City Manager <br /> be instructed to research possibilities of consolidation <br /> of Fire and Police services, with personnel providing <br /> both functions, and report back to Council. <br /> The motion failed for la.c':{. of a second. <br /> Further comments by Council reflected concern over the <br /> effectiveness of fire alarm boxes, and indication of <br /> misuse of the alarm boxes resulting in a high rate of <br /> false alarms. <br /> MOTION : Councilman Barrett moved, seconded by Council- <br /> man Leipzig, to continue consideration of Account No. <br /> +" 530 pend~ ng receipt of more information regarding con- <br /> solidation of communications between Fire Department and <br /> ,,,,, Police Department, and on costs for fire alarm boxes. <br /> The motion carried on the following roll call vote : <br /> Ayes : Councilmen Barrett, Henderson, Leipzig, <br /> Norris, Mayor Weymouth <br /> Noes : Councilmen Rhodes, William <br /> -9- Budget <br /> Study <br /> 5/17/75 <br />
