- <br /> 363 <br /> Weed Abatement - 1975 <br /> City Manager Fales referred to his report of January 15, <br /> 1975 regarding the weed abatement program for 1975 and <br /> attaching report from the Director of Public Works, <br /> dated January 7, 1975. <br /> Director of Public Works Pusich replied to questions <br /> Imo concerning the nature of the weed eradication program, <br /> observing that it is essentially a program to eliminate <br /> fire hazard and not directed at aesthetics. Mr. Pusich <br /> acknowledged that rubbish is included in the program <br /> and asked Council members to provide him with addresses <br /> of any properties which they believe require attention <br /> during the program. Councilman Leipzig called attention <br /> to lots at Maple and Stambaugh and at Maple and Walnut <br /> Streets which she believes might qualify for the program. <br /> MOTION: Titles having been read, Councilman Norris in- <br /> troduced the following resolutions and moved, seconded <br /> by Councilman Barrett, their adoption : <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7343 DECLARING WEEDS AND RELATED <br /> MATTERS TO BE A NUISANCE, AND ORDERING THEIR <br /> REMOVAL <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 7344 APPROVING SPECIFICATIONS FOR <br /> THE WEED ERADICATION PROGRAM IN THE CITY OF REDWOOD <br /> CITY, AND AUTHORIZING CITY CLERK TO ADVERTISE FOR <br /> BIDS THEREFOR <br /> The resolutions were adopted unanimously by roll call vote. <br /> Emergency Jobs Program, Title VI - <br /> Comprehensive Employment and Training Act of 1973 <br /> City Manager Fales referred to his report of January 16, <br /> 1975 regarding the subject program and recommending <br /> Council approval of the Emergency Jobs Program, as sub- <br /> mitted to the Manpower Planning and Administration. Mr. <br /> Fales observed that the notice of availability of the <br /> Manpower funds and request for an application to be <br /> submitted prior to January 15 were received January 13, <br /> and advised that the program requesting 35 positions <br /> was submitted on January 14 (copy of the program is <br /> attached to the subject report) . <br /> Mr. Fales replied to questions concerning the probable <br /> lack of continuity of the program; the undesirability <br /> of the City' s becoming accustomed to a higher level of <br /> staffing than can be afforded; and whether unneeded <br /> jobs are being created thereby leading to eventual un- <br /> employment. Mr. Fales and Assistant City Manager Smith <br /> also replied to questions concerning the need for addi- <br /> tional enforcement employees at the Peninsula Humane <br /> um Society. <br /> Michael Baratz, executive secretary of Local 715, Service <br /> Employees International Union, AFL-CIO, requested that <br /> the Council direct staff to meet and confer on the <br /> -3- <br /> Reg.Mtg. <br /> 1/20/75 <br />
