397
General Comment
Reminder was made that Revenue Sharing Funds do not
affect the tax rate and are available to the City for
0•••• certain specific uses only. (Revenue Sharing items are
expected to be considered at the Budget Study Session
um on Saturday, June 7, 1975. )
Ken Aldrich, 1159 17th, asked that additional copies of
the proposed Annual Budget for 1975-1976 be available
for the next Budget Study Session.
Mayor Weymouth advised that in response to the unusual
public interest in the proposed Budget this year, about
150 additional copies were already provided and, noting
the advice of City Controller Ference that the cost of
the document is about $6.00 each, Mayor Weymouth asked
whether many additional copies are required. The re-
quests for more copies were then withdrawn.
Andy Bacigalupi, suggested copies of the proposed Budget
should have been prepared in advance for distribution
to any citizen requesting it, regardless of the cost.
Mayor Weymouth explained that at budget study sessions
held by the Council in all previous years, public atten-
dance had been very nominal, often less than ten persons.
Mayor Weymouth stated that copies of the proposed Budget
were prepared to meet all needs experienced in the past,
00 ., but many additional copies of the proposed Budget were
prepared immediately when the unanticipated interest of
the public was demonstrated this year. He stated Council
could not justify the enormous expense of preparing un-
limited copies of the proposed Budget in sufficient
quantity to provide a $6.00 copy to every residence in
the City. Mayor Weymouth advised that copies of the
proposed Budget are available for review in the Clerk's
office and in the libraries, and suggested that since
most persons present have copies that they share with
those sitting near them.
MOTION: Councilman Henderson moved, and it was duly
seconded, to continue Council consideration of the pro-
posed Budget at this time.
M. L. Tepley, ( see above) , suggested the press might
give the proposed Budget better coverage and that the
Council might consider publication of the Budget in the
newspaper. It was explained that newspaper publication
of the 131-page Budget would be prohibitively expensive.
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Public Works - Account No. 630 (Street Maintenance
Program) (pp 64-66)
City Manager Fales read the portion of the report of
May 30, 1975 of the Director of Public Works relating
to Street Sweeping noting that a saving of $8,700 plus
one man year may be saved by reducing the sweeping
schedule to three times a week in the commercial and
-4-
Budget
Study
5/31/75
