403
Charles Upton, G Street, inquired about the amount of
light on Broadway when improvements are completed. Mr.
Fales advised that no difference is intended or antici-
pated from the amount of light available in the past.
Comment was made concerning the need for adequate
traffic striping and signing, although a reduction of
materials cost of approximately $17,000 and 2,390 man
hours could be made if the program were reduced; the
difficulties encountered at stop signs on narrow streets
where double yellow lines have been painted; and the use
of Revenue Sharing funds for street resurfacing. It was
pointed out that there is a five-six cent reduction on
the tax rate because of use of Revenue Sharing funds for
the resurfacing.
The motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
Public Works - Account No. 640 (Water System) (pp 68-70)
City Manager Fales commented concerning the increase in
rates charged by San Francisco which were placed in
effect in 1974-1975.
MOTION: Councilman Leipzig moved, seconded by Council-
man Williams, to approve Account No. 640.
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
""'"°° Public Works - Account No. 650 (Sanitary Sewers)
(PP 71-73)
City Manager Fales described the preventive maintenance
program commenced this year with regard to sewers. Mr. Fales
also observed that in the future the sewer charges for
Redwood City should be expected to be about 30¢ more
than in other cities in the plan because Redwood City
provides cleaning of sewer laterals and other cities do
not.
A citizen stated that 30¢ is a bargain for taxpayers for
the sewer lateral service.
MOTION: Councilman Norris moved, seconded by Councilman
Leipzig, to approve Account No. 650.
The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
Public Works - Account No. 651 (Sewage Treatment and
Disposal) (pp 74-75)
City Manager Fales and Director of Public Works Pusich
commented and replied to questions from Council and
citizens concerning the necessity of repairing four
pumps at the sewage pumping station; the fact that SCSP
-10-
Budget
Study
5/31/75
