6A <br /> Public Hearing - General Plan Revisions - <br /> Redwood Shores Area (continued from 8/25 and 9/15/75) <br /> City Manager Fates referred to the material provided to Council by <br /> the Planning Department and that furnished at Council request, <br /> noting that the Public Hearing remains open at this time <br /> Planning Director Schroeter advised that Mobil Oil Estates (Redwood) <br /> Ltd. has prepared a slide presentation related to the proposed re- <br /> 1 visions to the General Plan for the Redwood Shores area. Mr <br /> Schroeter referred to the "Comparison of the Redwood Shores General <br /> Plan Adopted 1968 and Revisions Proposed in 1975" which was prepared <br /> by the Planning Department in response to Council request and com- <br /> mented on the direction of the General Plan. <br /> Mr Fales stated for the record that the areas shown as "not in the <br /> plan" on the map submitted with the "Comparison" referred to by Mr <br /> Schroeter are in the existing General Plan for the entire City, and <br /> the subregional sewage treatment facility shown on the General Plan <br /> still exists, but those areas are not now before Council <br /> In response to question, Mr Schroeter referred to page 2 of the <br /> "Comparison" observing that there is an increase in the acreage to be <br /> devoted to commercial and industrial development, to public use and <br /> to open water and a decrease in acreage proposed for residential <br /> development. <br /> Mr Fales stated for the record that the slide presentation has been <br /> prepared by Mobil in support of the application for change of the <br /> existing General Plan and that is what is dealt with in the proposed <br /> revisions. <br /> Neil Smith, Mobil Oil , 350 Marine World Parkway, offered a slide pre- <br /> sentation regarding the origin of the General Plan in the Redwood <br /> Shores area and the planning philosophy which shaped the Plan cover- <br /> ing history, goals, studies undertaken and the environmental impact <br /> report. Mr. Smith observed that some elements have been rearranged <br /> and commented as follows <br /> 1 ) Circulation - Roads have been rearranged for improvement <br /> as use of land is now contemplated. <br /> 2) Open space - Increased emphasis has been placed on what is <br /> already the major land use in the area,with boat facilities <br /> featuring the water <br /> 3) Community Services - The school board recommendation is <br /> that changes in population now suggest the need for only <br /> three schools instead of the six originally anticipated <br /> 4) Housing - Attempt has been made to be guided by objectives <br /> of the Housing Concerns Committee and the General Plan, <br /> with a variety of housing types, densities and values, <br /> with residential use of land reduced Mr Smith indicated <br /> Mobil would be willing to withhold development of those <br /> areas where Council might wish to preserve certain options <br /> with regard to crossings to Foster City and/or Bair Island <br /> -2- <br /> Reg Mtg <br /> 10/13/75 <br />
