(continued) 2555 Middlefield Road, as a contribution <br /> toward the total estimated cost of $472,000 <br /> for renovation of the Center is one of the <br /> items under consideration for inclusion in the <br /> '1981-82 CDBG Program. Most speakers listed <br /> below addressed their remarks to that item.) <br /> Larry Wise, 231 Fulton, Chairman of Target <br /> Education and Welfare which operates the <br /> Center, provided a brief history of the <br /> Center, noting the City has contributed to the <br /> Center. Mr. Wise urged approval of the allo- <br /> cation, stating that the renovation would per- <br /> mit use of the entire building which now has <br /> about three-quarters of its area blocked off <br /> because it is hazardous or inaccessible as it <br /> lacks an elevator. <br /> Zuma Francis, 1138 Madison, described present <br /> uses of the Center and the desire of members <br /> to make use of all of the building by adding <br /> an elevator. <br /> • <br /> Edmund Burke, 1200 Arguello, stated he is in - <br /> avor o anything that will continue'and <br /> augment the worthwhile work at the Center. <br /> Leslie Whitlock, 388 Winchester, Daly City, <br /> advised that he works with the Center through <br /> his position in the CAPTURE Program, observing <br /> that the Center appears to be one of the best <br /> of its kind in providing a nice atmosphere moo <br /> for seniors. _ <br /> Jack Greenalch, 870 Seminole Way, Dean of loam <br /> Student Services, Canada Community College, <br /> read a letter from Acting President Ferguson <br /> urging support of the allocation to assist <br /> in providing funds to renovate the Center. <br /> Betty Casey, 427 Hillway, PROBE Auxiliary, <br /> spoke in favor of use of the CDBG funds for <br /> renovation of the Senior Center. Ms. Casey <br /> described her organization's contributions to <br /> the Center and noted that the Center has much <br /> community support. She introduced members of <br /> her organization in support of the allocation. <br /> Sandra Cooperman, PROBE Auxiliary and Target <br /> Elders member, 636 Edgewood Road, said that <br /> the County has contributed to the renovation <br /> of the Center and urged the Council to approve <br /> the proposed allocation, stating her organi- <br /> zations are grateful for previous City support. <br /> • <br /> Cliff Boxley, 670A North Fairoaks, Director, <br /> Target Education and Welfare which operates <br /> the Center, acknowledged that the City has <br /> participated in the Center since it was estab- <br /> lished in 1969 and asked that Council now <br /> approve funds for renovation of the building, <br /> noting that the Housing and Human Concerns <br /> Committee and Planning Commission both recom- <br /> mended the allocation. <br /> Hope Aragon, 1037 Taft, stated she was among mem <br /> the first in establishing the Center and that <br /> Spanish-speaking seniors are participating <br /> *Of <br /> Reg.Mtg. <br /> 212/81 <br /> Page 2 <br />
