ChandIeen. �, 401 MARSHALL STREET <br /> Manguenite Leipzig BUDGET STUDY SESSION <br /> Bite Rhodes June 21, 1980 <br /> Adjourned Meeting - <br /> Budget Study Session <br /> The Council of the City of Redwood City met on this date at 9:00 a.m. <br /> with Mayor Biagi presiding. <br /> Councilmen present: Britschgi , Chandler, Leipzig, Rhodes, Stangel <br /> { <br /> (arrived at 9:16 a.m. ) and Mayor Biagi <br /> Councilmen absent: Bury <br /> Officials and staff present: City Manager Fales, City Attorney Schricker, <br /> Assistant City Manager Smith, Director of Finance Ference and Director <br /> of Public Works Addiego, Police Chief Bold, Director of Personnel Brock, <br /> Director of Parks and Recreation Griffiths, Director of Communications <br /> Mott, Fire Chief O'Brien and Deputy City Clerk Reggetts t' <br /> TRANSPORTATION (pp. 31-39) (pp. 31-35 through Street Lighting con- <br /> sidered and approved at Budget Study Session of June 14, 1980 <br /> Mayor Biagi reminded Council that they had considered and acted upon <br /> eows all items in the proposed budget through Page 30, and had begun review <br /> of the Transportation Program budget through Street Lighting, Page 35., <br /> I <br /> RIGHTS-OF-WAY BEAUTIFICATION <br /> Street Trees <br /> Mr. Fales indicated that the Street Tree Master Plan should <br /> be periodically updated because of changes and progress in <br /> street tree planning due to studies being done on development <br /> of different types of trees, and on control of diseases and <br /> insects. <br /> CONSENSUS: Mayor Biagi determined that it was the consensus <br /> of Council that the following be added to the list of <br /> Objectives for this Sub-Program: <br /> 4. Trim trees around street lights to improve lighting. <br /> It was noted that this activity should be considered separate <br /> from planned pruning of trees. <br /> In response to question, Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Griffiths advised that there is equipment for root-cutting <br /> adjacent to sidewalks, and is in use in neighboring cities <br /> (:: such as Palo Alto and Menlo Park; that other equipment, such <br /> as stumpcutters, can be used in areas that are particularly <br /> bad, and that the answer to the root problem is selection of <br /> good trees and ongoing maintenance. City Manager Fales <br /> described the present practice by the City of "ramping" with <br /> asphalt uplifted sections of sidewalk caused by tree roots, <br /> and indicated that the more recent tree plantings will be less <br /> of a problem bPrau e of t2tt,:' knowledge regarding street trees. <br /> Budget Study <br /> 6/21/80 <br /> �, �! <br />
