261 <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT AND PROTECTION (pp 41-50) <br /> CLEAN STREETS <br /> Mr. Fales and Mr. Addiego responded to questions regarding <br /> street sweeping, that frequency of sweeping downtown remains at <br /> the same level as in 1979, or three times per week; that when <br /> street sweeping was cut back after Proposition 13, it was found <br /> that apparently the City had been sweeping more often than <br /> necessary in terms of safety and cleanliness; that with respect <br /> to notifying residents in advance so that cars will be parked <br /> off the street when sweeping is to be done, the difficulties <br /> of trying to closely schedule sweeping was explained. <br /> WATER SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION <br /> Mr. Fales reviewed the goals and indicated that with the added <br /> personnel , it will be possible henceforth to look more like a <br /> private water purveyor in terms of financial records. Mr. <br /> Ference noted that now it will be possible to bring the <br /> records up to date with a history of when the mains were in- <br /> stalled, their size and similar information. <br /> Mr. Fales responded to question regarding maintenance by San <br /> Francisco Water of the Hetch Hetchy rights of way; that there <br /> have been proposals regarding utilization of the rights of way <br /> such as a parcourse; that no structures can be built over the <br /> rights of way, and that we do get their cooperation in keeping <br /> growth down, but that a lot of the debris is the fault of <br /> neighboring residents, and the matter of motorcycles in the <br /> right of way is a question of individual responsibility and <br /> "." enforcement. <br /> WATER SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION <br /> Water System Administration <br /> Water Customer Service <br /> Council noted the poor appearance of the water pumping station <br /> and the land around it at Alameda and Vera, which Mr. Addiego <br /> indicated will be investigated. <br /> Water Source of Supply <br /> City Manager Fales indicated that the contract with San <br /> Francisco will be up this year and that they have advised by <br /> letter that current rates will continue until October; that <br /> the contract is a major one involving Bay Area Water Users, <br /> and negotiations may go on to the extent that another exten- <br /> sion will be necessary. <br /> (Council recessed from 10:30 to 10:45 a.m. ) <br /> Mr. Fales referred to a memorandum dated June 20, 1980 from Mr. Ference <br /> distributed to Council at the beginning of the meeting, indicating <br /> budget adjustments made tnrough June 14, 1980, for a net increase of <br /> $34,069. <br /> Budget Study <br /> 6/21/80 <br /> PT9 7-3 <br />
