The majority
of the participants suffer from chronic illnesses, and are at a high risk of requiring
acute care or hospitalization. Most require full-time supervision and assistance
with their activities of daily living due to their medical needs — both physical and
cognitive. The program provides respite for caregivers and supports caregivers
and family members with case management, informal counseling, support
services and information and referral. $10,000 was requested to support the
operafions of the Adult Day Support Program.
Peninsula Volunteers, Inc. — Rosener House Senior Dav Care Center
Peninsula Volunteers, Inc, was founded in 1947 to provide gerontological
services to mid-peninsula elders, guided by the principle of serving people in the
community so they may "age in place." Rosener House is an adult day support
center that provides elders with disabilities the ability to maintain their highest
level of independence through participation in the therapies and social activities
offered. Family members are also offered support groups and individual
counseling, including referrals to other community organizations. $25,000 was
requested to support the operations of the Senior Day Care Center.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties — Operation
Brown Baq
For nearly 30 years, Second Harvest Food Bank has been the main source of
food to hundreds of thousands of low-income people on the Peninsula and South
Bay. Operation Brown Bag gives food to seniors and provides a safety net that
prevents hunger from being their only option. Each week seniors receive 3 full
bags of groceries filled with nutritious and quality food. $5,000 was requested to
support the operations of Operation Brown Bag in Redwood City.
Peninsula Volunteers - Meals on Wheels
Peninsula Volunteers Meals on Wheels Program delivers hot meals to seniors
and disabled individuals in South San Mateo County who are homebound and
unable to prepare and shop for food. $25,000 was requested to help subsidize
meals for Redwood City residents who are disabled and unable to pay for the
meals.
3
