This is <br /> done through a tuition free parent participation preschool. In addition to the <br /> preschool activities, Family Connections also offers parent education. $7,000 <br /> was requested to support outreach to and participatron of Redwood City families <br /> in the program. <br /> Bovs & Girls Club of the Peninsula (BGCP) — Learninq Center Proqrams <br /> Since iYs inception in 1959, the Boys & Girls Club of the Peninsula has <br /> consistently enacted its mission to inspire and enable all people, especially those <br /> from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential. At the Boys and <br /> Girls Club's Mervin Morris Clubhouse in the Fair Oaks neighborhood of Redwood <br /> City, youth receive homework assistance, computer training and the opportunity <br /> to interact socially with peers in a safe, positive environment. $10,000 was <br /> requested to support the Clubhouse's after school leaming center programs. <br /> Friends for Youth, Inc.- Mentorinq Services for Redwood Citv Youth <br /> Friends for Youth (FFY) is dedicated to supporting youth-in-need through quality <br /> mentoring. Youth who are physically or emotionally deprived, exhibit delinquent <br /> behavior, or are at risk of academic failure are referred through professional <br /> agencies. FFY provides ongoing, individualized attention and guidance to <br /> support and enrich each friendship. In addition, FFY provides life skills <br /> workshops and a group activities program that are designed to expose youth to <br /> new options for growth. $8, 000 was requested to support these programs for <br /> Redwood City Youth. <br /> YMCA of the Mid-Peninsula — Sequoia Branch Fit Kids Proqram <br /> The Sequoia YMCA has served the residents of Redwood City for more than 50 <br /> years with programs that help children develop self-esteem and model the values <br /> of Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility. The Fit Kids �rogram is a 12- <br /> week activity based nutrition and fitness model for 2" — 5 graders. It is <br /> designed to run in conjunction with an existing after school program to educate <br /> and foster a sense of personal responsibility for health and reduce health risks in <br /> families. $10,000 was requested to assist the YMCA in providing financial <br /> assistance to families needing after-school childcare. <br /> 5 <br />
