. . I . -
Nick Podell, of M. H. PodeI! Company, developer of the proposed project, advised
his company had built Pelican Cove and Indian Creek in Redwood Shores, and said
he hoped the Lido Project would be the nicest project yet.
Mr. Podell said the proposed affordable units would be located throughout the
~ complex and there would be no differentiation whatsoever, inside or out, between the
20 affordable units and the 150 others. He described how his company had worked
and negotiated with City staff and the Housing and Human Concerns Committee to
reach agreement on the 60% figure and all 2-bedroom units.
In response to Council questions, Mr. Podell emphasized there would be no
difference between any of the units built.
Council commended Mr. PodeI! for his company's flexibility and cooperation in
providing affordable units for Redwood City residents and acknowledged his
expertise in the industry.
4) Close public hearing;
MIS: BUCHANIHOW ARD TO CLOSE THE PUBLIC HEARING.
CARRIED BY UNANIMOUS VOICE VOTE AND THE HEARING CLOSED AT 8:38
P.M.
MINUTE ORDER NO. 96-222
5) Council action;
MIS: BUCHANIHOW ARD. TITLE READ.
-
RESOLUTION NO. 12897 AUTHORIZING AMENDMENT OF THE LIDO
NEIGHBORHOOD SPECIFIC PLAN
ADOPTED BY UNANIMOUS ROLL CALL VOTE.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST
A Councilwoman Buchan reported on the recent Redwood City Police Department
operation against the CXLS gang in Redwood City. Councilwoman Buchan spoke not
only as a Council member but as a resident who lives in the neighborhood that CXLS
claimed as its territory. She described what she had learned about the massive operation
that was conducted: "This is a culmination of three years of dealing with young people
who were not the most brilliant criminals in the world, but they did carry guns, and that
made them very dangerous. We did set a precedent in this by daring to arrest and
building a case against young people.... and adults for being gang members. We called
other cities in the state and no other city had done this. This was a massive amount of
coordination between the Police Department, the Sheriffs Office, State Parole, the
Probation Department, the County Swat Team, you name it, to pull it off, and they pulled
it off very quickly. As a member of the Council I offer my thanks, as (well as) a member
- of the neighborhood along with the other members of the neighborhood here tonight.
