Chairman Gilman introduced Committee <br /> L member Dr. Steve Howard. <br /> Mayor Hartnett suggested that the AAC meet with the Redwood City-San Mateo <br /> County Chamber and other groups such as the BIA and AlA to conduct a focus group <br /> to discuss the appropriate roles and procedures for the AAC before it makes formal <br /> recommendations to the Council. <br /> MEMO 10/22/96 <br /> Councilwoman La Berge said in the short existence of this Committee there has been <br /> a remarkable difference in the look of Redwood City and neighbors ITom other cities <br /> have commented on the improvement. Chairman Gilman said he agreed that good <br /> design begets more good design, it creates "an additive effect." <br /> Councilman Ruskin thanked the AAC for its accomplishments and said the exterior <br /> look of a City relates to the livability of the City. Councilman Ruskin said the work of <br /> the AAC fits so wen with the Council's focus on beautification and code enforcement, <br /> and invited the members of the AAC to become more involved with that process. <br /> Chairman Gilman agreed to discuss this request with the whole Committee and report <br /> back to the CounciI on what role the AAC could play in the City's beautification <br /> projects. <br /> MEMO 10/22/96 <br /> - <br /> Councilman Claire presented a short history of architectural review in Redwood City, <br /> and encouraged the AAC to continue its "user friendly" reputation. <br /> Councilman Leipzig asked Chairman Gilman to include the San Mateo Association of <br /> Realtors in the focus groups, advising that he and the Association would be very <br /> cautious when considering any mandatory reviews. <br /> Vice Mayor Howard echoed her coneagues comments and said the AAC had done <br /> fine work and had saved developers a lot of time and money. <br /> 3) BOARD OF BUILDING REVIEW <br /> Report: Board of Building Review Accomplishments and Work Plan for 1996/97 <br /> Chairman Keith Bautista and Building Official John la Torra discussed the <br /> Board's accomplishments and WorkpIans for 1996/97. Chairman Bautista advised that <br /> the Board actually reviews Codes and makes recommendations to the Council and sits <br /> as an Appeal Board, rather than reviewing buildings or building plans.
