I . . <br /> Hartnett explained that the work of the Committee is up to the discretion of the <br /> Council and the Council had decided to keep decisions regarding certain new projects <br /> such as Electronic Arts, within its purview, and not assign it to the TAC. Mayor <br /> I...- Hartnett said the problems regarding the Committee's work were not solvable in one <br /> evening, but expressed his hope that future joint TAC meetings, a meeting with the <br /> Community Development Director, and Council involvement would be extremely <br /> helpful. <br /> Council Members discussed the history of the T AC, its advisory nature, the <br /> frustrations expressed at this meeting that have not changed since the Committee's <br /> inception, the need to eliminate day to day engineering problems ITom TAC's agenda, <br /> and Council Members desire for closure on identified programs and how the Council <br /> can help TAC achieve its goals. <br /> Councilman Leipzig, the Traffic Advisory Committee's first Chairman, <br /> acknowledged the historical perspectives, and said he would be glad to work with the <br /> Committee on establishing guidelines. <br /> Mayor Hartnett advised that he and Councilman Leipzig would meet with the Traffic <br /> Advisory Committee Members and facilitate a joint report to the fun Council. <br /> MEMO 10/22/96 <br /> 5. LIBRARY BOARD <br /> '-- Report: Library Board Annual WorkpIan FY 96/97 <br /> Chairwoman Ursula Ferguson introduced her fellow Library Board members Nicet <br /> Santos and Francis Ludwig. Chairwoman Ferguson presented the Board's report and <br /> discussed the Library's recent reorganization, the successful Families for Literacy <br /> program, the Library's program for economic development services to small <br /> businesses, and the Library's feasibility study to establish a library foundation to <br /> improve library services and facilities. <br /> Library Director Jane Light described the Library's Strategic Plan which <br /> incorporates an electronic resources/technology component. <br /> Board Member Ludwig said it was a real joy to work with the Library Board. <br /> Mayor Hartnett congratulated the Board and Director Light on the Library's <br /> accomplishments and its national recognition, and complemented them for their <br /> leadership. <br /> Don Saye, 2021 Broadway, Redwood City, described how proud he and all the <br /> , citizens of Redwood City were ()f its Library and its wonderful staff. <br /> L. <br /> ADJOURNED REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING OCTOBER2I,1996 <br /> MINUTES MINUTE BOOK NO. 54 PAGEl? <br /> Page No. 542 <br />
