REPORTER'S TRANSCRIPT OF PROCEEDINGS TAKEN 5-24-04
nontransit-oriented urban sprawl, because that's
i 2 what it is.
We can barely sweep our streets once a
month, our police officers are stretched as it is
trying to control the violent crime on our streets.
We ask our officers like John Harp to be in ten
places at one time. I don't know how he can expect
to service or even begin to imagine having another
area away from our downtown area to take care of.
It is not your responsibility to create
jobs. It will only lead to thousands of
unobtainable shoreline units that will not be
interacting with transportation.
I
1093 units doesn't give you the more
important number of how many bedrooms there are,
and the number of trips per day to wo r k, to school,
to markets, to hair salons.
We always here about how years ago the
development of the Mervyns plaza wasn't going to
compete with downtown or the changing of one or two
street directions, but it did. JCPennys failed,
downtown failed, only because of that little tiny
change, the principal of diminishing returns.
We add a commercial hub of services out
there and we're competing with downtown.
UCCELLI & ASSOCIATES 101
(650) 952-0774
-- ,
