REPORTER'S TRANSCRIPT OF PROCEEDINGS TAKEN 5-24-04
direction of high rises, this is the way to go. I
( 2 don't think San Francisco residents really want a
bayfront that looks like that.
We all recognize this ve r y, very serious
need for housing, bu,t instead of this inappropriate
development on the waterfront, Redwood city has a
terrific alternative in the downtown area plan,
drafted in October 2001.
I was looking at it just today and it's a
great plan that is very well considered and
recommends 2,500 to 3,000 housing units be located
downtown where it belongs, next to - - connected to
services, shopping and connected to the transit
(
corridor.
Such development downtown still provides
jobs for union workers, it would provide homes.
The economic benefits of the Marina Shores Village
project could all be realized with the downtown
development.
And so I just, in summary, I request that
the City Council deny the project as proposed and
not change the zoning. And do the development
downtown, where it belongs.
Thank you.
MAYOR IRA: Thank you. Joe LaClair and
UCCELLI & ASSOCIATES 115
(650) 952-0774
.- ,
