<br /> REPORTER'S TRANSCRIPT OF PROCEEDINGS TAKEN 5-24-04 <br />1 then Robin Winslow Smith. <br />2 MR.. LaCLAIR: Thank you Mr. Mayor and <br />3 Council Members. My name is Joe LaClair and I'm a <br />4 Redwood City resident. <br />5 And I want to say that I understand the <br />6 need for housing in San Mateo County is great and I <br />7 applaud the City for moving aggressively to meet <br />8 its regional responsibility to construct housing, <br />9 but this project comes at too high a cost for the <br />10 community and it should be rejected, 0 r, <br />11 significantly reworked to address a number of <br />12 community concerns. <br />13 About two weeks ago in my neighborhood, the <br />( <br />14 teachers were demonstrating for better wages and <br />15 affordable housing, so clearly there's a need in <br />16 the community. And although this project will <br />17 provide for some of that, I think that the prior <br />18 speaker indicated that there's going to be some <br />19 affordable question as'to whether or not those <br />20 people are actually going to be able to purchase <br />21 the housing that's - - that's proposed as part of <br />22 this project. <br />23 This project is smart growth in a dumb <br />24 place.
