<br /> REPORTER'S TRANSCRIPT OF PROCEEDINGS TAKEN 5-24-04 <br /> 1 The City has in its downtown plan, <br />! 2 committed to build thousands of housing units on <br /> 3 existing transit corridors and this project could <br /> 4 divert attention and resources away from those <br /> 5 projects. Especially important, water resources, <br /> 6 so we need to make sure that those resources are <br /> 7 available for these downtown development projects. <br /> 8 We should stop the forward project - - <br /> 9 forward progress of this project at this time and <br /> 10 use the General Plan update process to engage the <br /> 11 community and develop a community consensus around <br /> 12 what the future of the waterfront should be. <br /> 13 I have attended two of the workshops <br />( <br /> 14 sponsored by the Planning Commission to discuss the <br /> 15 future of the city, and of the people who attended <br /> 16 those workshops and spo ke about this project, the <br /> 17 majority of them were in opposition. <br /> 18 So I would just like to close with saying <br /> 19 that Vancouver's been invoked as an example a <br /> 20 number of times this evening. Vancouver's high <br /> 21 density housing is integrated into its urban <br /> 22 fabric, it is not located out in some far flung <br /> 23 place at the edge of the City. It's woven right <br /> 24 into the fabric of the City.
