<br />City Attorney Schricker described the land acquisition issue, the complexities of the <br />agreement language, and the legal vehicle proposed to address the issue ofa 147-year <br />lease. City Attorney Schricker advised that at this point County Counsel was discussing <br /> the City's proposed redrafted agreement with the Belmont School Board, assured <br />everyone that the principles of the agreement were being honored, and this project would <br />go forward. <br />Councilwoman Buchan thanked everyone for their work on this project and their <br /> patience, and stated that this project would get done. <br /> Councilwoman Howard suggested that when the agreement was signed the Council and <br /> the Belmont School District might want to hold a study session with participation from <br /> the community to come and clear the air, to show good faith and that we are moving <br /> ahead. <br /> MEMO 1/24/95 <br /> Mayor Gasparini thanked Mrs. Shotwell, and asked staff to provide an update on this <br /> matter in a few weeks. In response to Mayor Gasparini's questions regarding the <br /> establishment of timelines, City Attorney Schricker advised that circumstances <br /> prevented timelines, such as at the time of funding this project, new School Board counsel -. <br /> will come on board and they will have their own issues to negotiate. <br /> MEMO 1/24/95 <br />B. Ralph Nobles, 3720 Country Club Drive, Redwood City, asked that Item 2.B., approval <br /> of additional funds to Washburn, Briscoe and McCarthy for legal work relating to the <br /> Redwood Shores Exterior Levee Improvement Project, be removed from the Consent <br /> Calendar. Mr. Nobles expressed support for the levee project, but added that he had <br /> previously expressed opposition to the "expenditure of $50,000 for services of the well- <br /> known anti-regulatory agency law firm of Washburn, Briscoe and McCarthy" and further <br /> believed that an additional $25,000 expenditure at this time "may impede a prompt and <br /> successful closure of the permit process and may actually lead to protracted and costly <br /> legal proceedings." <br />---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <br />2. CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Councilwoman Howard removed Item 2.B. and Councilwoman Steinfeld removed Item 2.D. <br />from the Consent Calendar to be considered immediately following the adoption of the Consent <br />Calendar.
