Hear public comment; Josephine Thompson, Center Street, Redwood City, Chairperson and representative of the Redwood Oaks Neighborhood, requested the Zoning Administrator's denial of the use permit be upheld. She requested that people in the audience from the Redwood Oaks Neighborhood to stand and be recognized. A large percentage of the audience stood. Erin Callaghan, Central Avenue, Redwood City described past history of the neighborhood, a previous establishment at the same location and problems with traffic, litter, parking and safety. Bob Bryant, 2580 El Camino Real, Redwood City, owns the restaurant next door to the House Buffet and discussed potential parking problems this restaurant would cause at Mel's Bowl. Ray Brooks, Center Street, Redwood City, member of the Redwood Oaks Neighborhood Association discussed problems the dance facility would cause for the neighborhood. Beth Ross, Price Avenue, Redwood City, Community Organizer for the South County Coalition for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, stated she has worked with the Redwood Oaks Neighborhood for the last two years and assisted with the original planning of the drug free zone near Fleishman Park. The neighbors would love to see the restaurant succeed but they are concerned that a dancing facility will have a negative impact on the neighborhood. Lori Barker, Murray Court, Redwood City, stated she is not in favor of the nightclub in this area. Maria Stockton, Fox Court East, Redwood City, expressed concern with the process of neighborhood meeting notification and would like to see the permit issued on a probationary basis. Geri Myers, Broadway, Redwood City, would like the appeal put on the hold for further investigation to work out details. Councilwoman Buchan requested Police Officer Sousa step forward to discuss the impact this restaurant/dance club may have on the neighborhood. In 1988 there was a similar establishment at the same location that presented several problems.
