System Design Document
The System Design Document or SDD is a technical document, coilaboratively authored by
both the owner/operator and the Scheidt & Bachmann design team. It clearly and specifically
describes the operational functionality of the system: inclusive of screen shots, sample reports,
and step by step sy5tem procedures. Once the document is created and approved by both
parties, it becomes the system 'road-map' and becomes the basis for all subsequent
confirmation of functionality. As noted in the Respondent's Contract Requirements proposal,
the approved SDD will become part of the project's contract.
FactoryAcceptance Test(FAT)
The objective of the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is to demonstrate and confirm the design and
operational functionality of the PARCS in a test environment prior to installation at the project
site. This prevents costly and inefficient field adjustments later on.
The test will take place locally or at one of the S & B testing facilities. The system will be
configured as specified in the SDD. Having the test at our offices allows us to rapidly make any
corrections or adjustments to issues found in the testing process. They can then be re-tested and
confirmed during the process. The criteria for the test are based upon the operational
functionality described within the SDD. Each type of lane and field device will be set up to allow
100% testing of the system, which allows for a "plug and play" environment, when the
equipment is delivered to the site
The environmental conditions of the FAT area are those typically found in a factory setting and
obviously do not represent the installation environment. All system activity is simulated and
recorded as part of the testing process to confirm subsequent reporting and recording of all test
transactions.
Lane Acceptance Test(tAT)
Once the equipment is shipped to the site, it is installed at the intended locations consistent with
the project schedule. As each lane is completed, the operator is notified and a Lane Acceptance
Test (LAT) takes place at that time. The LAT usually takes a period of two (2) hours per lane. The
LAT is a repetition of the FAT steps for that type of equipment. This process confirms the
operational integrity of the equipment, after shipping and installation, is consistent with that
tested during the FAT. In addition, the field modules attached with each specific lane: vehicle
loops, power circuits, communication media, are tested as well.
Site Acceptance Test(SAT)
The Site Acceptance Test (SAT) would commence after all of the equipment configured for each
site or facility is installed and has completed their individual LAT. For example, once all of the
equipment intended for the structure is installed and their respective LAT's are completed, the
REV:09-10-15 VR
ATTY/AGR.2015.217/Scheidt& Bachmann USA, Inc.
