He spoke about the <br /> state of infrastructure in Redwood City, with identified funding sources that have allowed <br /> the infrastructure to remain in good shape and continue to be approved as necessary. <br /> He reviewed several specific pieces of the CIP (Capital Improvement Program) and the <br /> funding. Mayor Gee noted that this is a Study Session and this will come back for <br /> review in June. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust agree with the proposed funding sources for parking improvements. <br /> She stated that this touches every member of the community and that it should be <br /> communicated in the best way possible so the public can be made aware of this work. <br /> Council Member Pierce expressed appreciation for the breadth of the projects, and <br /> suggested looking at the project of the City of San Mateo called Sustainable Streets. <br /> Council Member Howard noted that she has heard from some community members <br /> who provide childcare that there is not enough childcare for the demand. She asked <br /> how many miles of sidewalk there is in Redwood City and Mr. Chinnakotla replied that <br /> there is about 300 miles. Council Member Howard appreciated the 50/50 Sidewalk <br /> program and some of the other proposals. Council Member Aguirre asked about the <br /> parking meters. Mr. Aknin noted that there will be a trial run with some of the meters to <br /> get a better idea of which meters the public likes the most so that will be forthcoming in <br /> the late summer. <br /> Council Members Bain and Seybert expressed appreciation for the presentation and <br /> these projects. Council Member Howard asked if there are any discussions about <br /> redesigning the Fair Oaks Community campus for the library and community center. <br /> Library Director Wolfgram said that there is approximately $100,000 in the Fair Oaks <br /> Library Improvement project in this year's CIP and this will be carried over into next year <br /> as they work on planning for it. He also noted that the County has allocated $100,000 <br /> in Measure A funds for the expansion of the Fair Oaks Community Center and there is a <br /> possibility that additional County-owned land may become a part of the planning and <br /> that they are just getting started and both he and Mr. Beth have an upcoming meeting <br /> with the County. <br /> Mayor Gee stated that this is an opportunity to tell the community what the City is doing <br /> for the infrastructure without having to raise taxes. These improvements will touch <br /> every neighborhood and resident in the City.
