Auxiliary lanes on Highway 101 <br /> (Woodside to Highway 92) are being considered for Measure A funding, and are ranked <br /> 3rd and 4th in terms of priority of countywide projects. In order to have maximum <br /> political clout to ensure the auxiliary lanes on Highway 101 remain at least as high on the <br /> list as they are or perhaps move up, the three cities will invite the City of San Mateo (who <br /> also has an interest in auxiliary lanes) to participate in the presentation to the San Mateo <br /> County Transportation Authority. County Emergency Winter Shelter Plans <br /> REPORT: Redwood City Housing Coordinator, August 20, 1995, Revised <br /> September 11, 1995 <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett called upon those in the audience who had submitted speakers' <br /> cards. <br /> Dr. Nancy Jewell Cross, candidate for City Council asked the Council to give attention to <br /> the conditions that a shelter imposes on its residents which cause neighborhood problems. <br /> Dr. Cross discussed the routine at a shelter and described the chronic problems suffered by <br /> homeless shelter residents, and asked the Council to put constraints on people who ask to <br /> use Redwood City land. <br /> Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett, member of the Council's Committee on homeless and <br /> transitional shelters, presented the staff report and described the County's change in plans <br /> for a year round shelter due to the County's lack of success in the competition for HUD <br /> funds. Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett advised that the County had notified Redwood City last <br /> Thursday of its plan to provide an emergency winter shelter on County owned property at <br /> the foot of Maple Street, the old work furlough site, and another shelter in the National <br /> Guard Armory in the City of San Mateo. It is expected that the shelters will be operated <br /> by Samaritan House for this coming winter only. Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett stated that <br /> Redwood City did not encourage nor recommend the shelter be located in the City nor at <br /> the County facility on Maple Street, but the City's permission was not needed.
