expressed by all three cities, and commented that it was a major event when three cities
agreed in concept to form one assessment district. Auxiliary lanes on Highway 101
(Woodside to Highway 92) are being considered for Measure A funding, and are ranked
3rd and 4th in terms of priority of countywide projects. In order to have maximum
political clout to ensure the auxiliary lanes on Highway 101 remain at least as high on the
list as they are or perhaps move up, the three cities will invite the City of San Mateo (who
also has an interest in auxiliary lanes) to participate in the presentation to the San Mateo
County Transportation Authority. Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett advised he would be glad to
provide additional information on the proposed traffic assessment district.
Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett announced that the City of San Carlos had offered to pay for
part of the study about to be completed, and that further updates would be forthcoming.
MEMO 9/19/95
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7. Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett advised that the County had notified Redwood City last
Thursday of its plan to provide an emergency winter shelter on County owned property at
the foot of Maple Street, the old work furlough site, and another shelter in the National
Guard Armory in the City of San Mateo. It is expected that the shelters will be operated
by Samaritan House for this coming winter only. Mayor Pro Tem Hartnett stated that
Redwood City did not encourage nor recommend the shelter be located in the City nor at
the County facility on Maple Street, but the City's permission was not needed.
