<br /> Commissioner Moran described the areas of the Commission's concerns: housing for <br /> seniors, housing information to the Council and HHCC, educating the community on <br /> senior issues and services, elder abuse education and advocacy position, health care <br /> issues, transportation, peer counseling and consumer watch. <br /> In response to Council questions, Commissioner Newell explained how the <br /> Commission's issues incorporate the broader societal issues affecting seniors; described <br /> the one-on-one peer counseling program for seniors who are homebound or feel isolated <br /> or alone; acknowledged transportation problems for seniors and the Commission's plans <br /> to work with the Traffic Advisory Committee and Housing and Human Concerns <br /> Committee; discussed need for assisted living facilities; advised that members of the <br /> Police Department had addressed safety issues for seniors; and agreed to continue to <br /> monitor senior day care services for Redwood City residents. <br /> Councilwoman Howard complimented the Senior Affairs Commissioners for attending <br /> and participating in so many other boards, committees and commission meetings. <br /> 4) Civic Cultural Commission, Oliver Redington, Chairperson, Commissioners Tamara <br /> Piulle and Don Saye; <br /> REPORT: Civic Cultural Commission Workplan Objectives for 1995-96 <br /> Chairman Redington told the Council that the Commission's overriding concern was <br /> working with children. Chairman Redington discussed the Commission's objectives: <br /> develop and enhance cultural opportunities in the schools, public art acquisition for Red <br /> Morton Center, two new grant funds by June of 1996 and a formal public arts policy, <br /> develop funding guidelines, mural policy in cooperation with Architectural Advisory <br /> Committee, ballet program and expanded budget. <br /> Commissioner Piulle described the amount of work ahead of the Commission, and the <br /> amount of work it takes to put on the successful "Concerts in the Parks Program." <br /> Commissioners discussed possible changes they are considering for next year's program, <br /> including using only one venue. Commissioner Saye also thanked the Redwood City <br /> Port for sponsoring the Concerts in the Park for the last two years. Commissioner <br /> Piulle also discussed the need for an events calendar and the Commission's expectation <br /> of the Art Center's request for assistance. <br /> Commissioner Saye discussed the new ballet program for children and the need for <br /> purely cultural activities for young people. <br /> In response to Council questions Chairman Redington described how at least one <br /> Commissioner attends every event, and all the commissioners study the results of the <br /> survey distributed at the events in order to judge their success. <br /> [NUTE BOOK N . 53 <br /> I.ge No. 356 Adj.
