<br /> Vice Mayor Hartnett suggested announcing the Commission's sponsored events in the <br /> City Newsletter the Park and Recreation Department catalogue and the Port Newsletter. <br /> In response to Council questions and direction, the Commissioners agreed to place the <br /> issue of term limits back on their agenda for further discussion. <br /> MEMO 10/3/95 <br /> 5) Fair Oaks Community Center Advisory Board, Bonnie Miller, Chairperson and Ed <br /> Bailey, Vice Chairperson; <br /> REPORT: Fair Oaks Community Center Advisory Board Annual Workplan 1995/96 <br /> Chairperson Miller described the Board's plan to update the Fair Oaks Community <br /> Center philosophy and mission statement, investigate NERTS (neighborhood emergency <br /> response team) training in Spanish, and expand the Center's fundraising activities. <br /> Future ideas include outreach programs announcing the Center's programs including <br /> public safety campaigns with police officers speaking to students and bike helmet <br /> campaigns, a homework club with the library, supporting alternative student programs, <br /> scholarships for books, a more extensive food program and participation in the Share <br /> Project. <br /> Vice Chairperson Bailey described the successful flea market the Board sponsors and <br /> expanded on the homework club plan, the Healthy Start Program and the Safe Route to <br /> School Program. <br /> Council Members commended the Board Members for their fund raising activities and <br /> extensive goals and objectives. <br /> 6) Library Board, Jim Centis, President, Board Members Nicet Santos, Ursula Ferguson <br /> and Sandra Cooperman; <br /> REPORT: Library Board Annual Workplan FY 1995/96 <br /> President Centis described the Board's first goal in keeping with the Council's priorities <br /> is the Library reorganization that will increase the Library's efficiency and enhance the <br /> taxpayers dollars. President Centis described the Library staffs leadership in the <br /> reorganization based on their talents, expertise and goals. <br /> President Centis advised that federal and state grant funding for the Families for <br /> Literacy program will diminish over the years and described the Library's plans to <br /> transition that program into the Library's Project Read budget by reallocating existing <br /> staff positions to offset that loss, reported on the Library's plans for using the Internet <br /> and other electronic technologies, and thanked the wonderful Library volunteers. In <br /> response to Council questions, President Centis advised the Library does accept <br /> donations. <br /> Adj.
